Slipped My Mind

Kaye Moore

I have a thought, but it eludes me.

I find it, catch it, then I fumble—

It slips out of my grasp, spills, shatters like a cup of tea.

It could be right there, printed on a flashing marquee.

Still blindly I bumble—

I have a thought, but it eludes me.

It will come to me, surely!

I speak and upon my words I stumble—

They slip out of my grasp, spill, shatter like little cups of tea.

Distraught, I sift through the debris—

It’s there, somewhere, lost in the jumble!

I have a thought, but it eludes me.

I tear my brains out, I cannot let it be!

My sanity begins to crumble,

Slips out of my grasp, spills, shatters like a cup of tea.

It’s right there—Where?—I just can’t see!

Still I search, search, search and mumble…

I had a thought, but it eluded me,

Slipped out of my grasp,

spilled,

shattered like a cup of tea.

Contributor's Note

Kaye Moore writes poetry and slipstream fiction.  She always strives to sprinkle just enough “aboutness” into her work.  When she is not writing or providing technical support to her family, she enjoys playing video games and creating digital art. She would like to thank her friends, family, professors, the buildings on campus, and Douglas Adams for their inspiration.
