Cursed
We were warned about the beasts--
creatures that lurked in shadow
grasping at shivering limbs,
afraid of the celestial hue of dawn.
Creatures that lurked in shadow,
in the places we shouldn’t have been--
afraid of the celestial hue of dawn.
We were too old for the stories.
In the places we shouldn’t have been,
we frolicked with the monsters.
We were too old for stories, but--
too young to leave them behind.
We frolicked with the monsters
who whispered desires. We were
too young to leave them behind--
we wanted to break their curse.
Monsters who whispered desires,
grasping at shivering limbs--
we had wanted to break their curse.
We were warned about the beasts.
